“Master” is a new film on Amazon Prime Video directed by Mariama Diallo and stars Regina Hall. It is a brilliant dialectic, social study of institutional racism and inequity. It is a masterclass on how navigating micro-aggressions in white spaces is futilely subversive and at the same time inversely vain.
“Master” is as poignant and idiomatic with messaging and symbolism as “Do The Right Thing,” “Get Out” and “Dear White People.”
If you stopped watching “Master” because it’s slow pacing, revisit it. It’s slow, but deliberate, purposely, just like deep seeded micro-aggressions and the overt, patriarchic white nationalism underbelly this country was founded on. Keep watching this film. It will pay off.
